The candidate of the PDP in the February 23 presidential election, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, expressed delight over governor Seyi Makinde's decision to declare his assets.
The Oyo State Governor had, on Monday made public his asset declaration documents revealing a net worth assets of N48 billion.
In a statement Tuesday by the spokesman for the PDP, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party noted that such voluntary decision further demonstrated the governor’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
Stating that the governor declared his assets in line with his electioneering campaign promises, the party commended him for refusing to repudiate the promises he made in the heat of elections.
Describing the governor’s action as an uncommon act of fidelity in the country, the PDP said the electorate in Oyo State, who voted massively for Mr Makinde during
Atiku, in a statement by his media adviser, Mr Paul Ibe, said he received the news of the governor’s action with pride and delight.
Atiku said by his actions, Governor Makinde has demonstrated that integrity is not a mere lip homage but a consistent course of action of an individual doing as they promised.
Commending Governor Makinde for his forthrightness, Atiku expressed his support for the governor’s administration and his ability to deliver good governance in the state.
“Recall that the Governor had hit the ground running after his swearing in as governor with ground breaking policies that seek to frontally address the problems of corruption in public and private sectors and also in advancing the access to universal basic education. These are programmes to which the PDP is heartily committed”, Atiku added.
The former Vice President further stated that he was particularly proud of the governor because as the only elected public official so far to so publicly declare his assets, was a demonstration of leadership by example.
“By this, the Governor has spoken without any ambiguity, that his administration will not condone corruption. His example is highly recommended to other leaders at all levels of government”.
