Christian Lawyers’ Fellowship of Nigeria (CLASFON) is registered under Part C (Incorporated Trustees) of the Corporate Affairs Commission as a faith based non-governmental organization for Christian lawyers and Law graduates in Nigeria.
The acronym CLASFON is also used to denote Christian Law Students Fellowship of Nigeria. This meaning is exercised at the Associate level, which are students of Faculty of law in Nigerian Institution accredited by NUC.
The fellowship drew its inspiration from the Lawyers Christian Fellowship (LCF) which started in England in 1852. This vision was received in the Nigerian Law School in Lagos in 1979. CLASFON officially started in 1981 when eleven persons met in Kaduna on the invitation of a young lawyer called George Ogunyomi who later became its pioneer General secretary.
This was the first gathering of Christian lawyers in Nigeria beyond the law School. The plan for the start of the fellowship had earlier started at the Nigerian Law School Lagos 1979/80 set.
